The Institute of Legal Informatics took part in the Saarland University’s open day which was held on 24th June 2017. Various projects including "GesetzMobil" (legislation on-the-go) and a project relating to data security in automated houses were presented to visitors.
With "GesetzMobil", visitors were provided with a "Gesetzes-Tankstelle" (a legislation filling station) from which they could download a comprehensive legislation library onto mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets or e-readers. This information could then be accessed offline. The particular benefit to users: no annoying page turning necessary – it is possible to get to every paragraph with 3 clicks!
From the technical field, the chair of the juris-Professor of Legal Informatics, Prof. Sorge, presented a project on “hands on data protection”. Using an interactive monitor and an electronic door lock, they demonstrated to the visitors just how easy it is for attackers to access data from networked appliances in a house and which solutions have been proposed in order to protect such data.
In the foyer of building C3 1, the Institute’s information stand was joined by further stands from the Law Department and Europa Institute. Interested school pupils and high school graduates received comprehensive information about studying law generally as well as the possibility offered by the Institute of Legal Informatics to study the elective subject area 9: IT-Law and Legal Informatics.
In addition, Prof. Sorge’s lecture on the subject of “Ransomeware: blackmail software in technology and law” was extremely well received by visitors.
