The lecture "Legal Framework for autonomous systems" took place at Saarbrücken’s Regional Court (Landgericht) on 06. December 2017.
Justice Minister Toscani, who was the initiator of this event, opened with an Impulse lecture and emphasised the importance of research into the area of autonomous systems. In doing so, he highlighted the work of the various institutions, such as DFKI, CISPA and the Institute of Legal Informatics as well as the newly created Helmholz Institute, which are based at Saarland University.
This was followed by a lecture DFKI on autonomous systems and responsibility by Dr. Christian Müller from the. The legal questions which such issue raises were then comprehensively dealt with in a lecture on the Regulation of Autonomous Systems given by Prof. Dr. Georg Borges.
The event which was attended by over 60 participants – including numerous representatives of the judiciary, politics and industry – was extremely well received. In conclusion, the speakers and the evening’s moderator, Dr. Sirin Özfirat, discussed the pros and cons of autonomous systems and the need for legal regulation with the audience.
