On the 26. September, the Institute of Legal Informatics dedicated itself to the development of the future generation at the event "Fascination Informatics" which was held at the Festo-Learning Centre in Rohrbach.
This Information event, which took place for the first time last year, gave pupils in Grade 10 and above at secondary schools in the local Saarpfalz Region, the chance to find out about the opportunities for vocational training and university study programmes in the area of IT. There were information stands, lectures, practical demonstrations and a guided tour through the Festo-Learning Centre. More than 140 pupils from 13 schools took part in the event. Co-operation partners were, in addition to the Institute of Legal Informatics at the Saarland University, the Max-Planck-Institute, CISPA, the ‘Hochschule Kaiserslautern’, the’ Landesinstitut für Pädagogik and Media’, the ’Initiative Alte Schmelz’, the ‘Festival Filmreif’ and the’ MINT-Campus’ in St Ingbert.
At the Institute of Legal Informatics‘ stand, pupils were able to talk to students and research assistants who work at the Institute and have the university study programmes in the areas of IT Law and Legal Informatics explained to them. The Elective Subjective Area 9, which forms part of the Law Study Programme at Saarland University, as well as the lectures and seminars in the area of Legal Informatics were particularly relevant. Those attending could also learn more about the additional qualification of a Certificate Study Programme in "IT-Law and Legal Informatics" which is offered through the Institute. The pupils were also interested in the career portal specifically for IT related roles which contains valuable information and tips on careers in the area of IT Law as well as a job exchange through which internships can be arranged.
Andreas Sesing, a research assistant at the Institute of Legal Informatics, gave a lecture in which he highlighted the relevant questions of allocation of risk and liability for robots to the pupils.
The District Administrator of the Saarpfalz-Region, Dr. Theophil Gallo, was also present and noted that the event must be repeated as it was so well received by those attending.
