The 2nd German-Franco Digital Conference, which was concluded by speeches from Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel, took place in Berlin on 13. December 2016.

The joint closing statement of the Federal Minister for Commerce and Energy (BMWi) and the French Ministry of Commerce and Finance stated, amongst other things, that Germany and France should be the driving forces behind the development of a European approach to the certification of Data Protection. Both countries should develop coherent certification standards for Data Protection in Cloud Services simultaneously and implement the appropriate processes.
