Prof. Dr. Stephan Weth was born in 1956 in Trier. In 1983, he took up a positon as a research assistant at Prof. Dr. Hanns Prütting’s Chair of Civil Law, Civil Procedural Law and Employment Law at the Saarland University. In April 1986, he moved to the University of Cologne where he was initially a research assistant and then a senior research assistant at the Institute of Procedural Law.

After completing his Ph.D. in 1987, he did his habilitation in Cologne in 1993 and, in the same year, became qualified to teach Civil law, Civil Procedural Law and Employment Law. In February 1994, he was appointed to the position of Professor (C3) at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. Then, in April 1995, he was appointed as a Professor (C4) at the Saarland University. Prof. Weth holds the Chair of German and European Procedural and Employment Law as well as Civil Law and is a director of the Institute of Employment and Social Law.

Prof. Weth was a practising lawyer from 1982 to 1994. From 2007 to 2010, he was a judge at the Higher Regional Court of the Saarland and, since February 2008, he has been a judge at the Constitutional Court of the Saarland. Prof. Weth is a member of the governing body of the German Employment Law Court Co-operation, co-founder and deputy head of the Institute of Law for the Legal Profession, Manager of the Centre for Research on Legal Advice and Legal Development as well as a co-director of the Institute of Legal Informatics and the Centre for Research on the Law relating to Doctors.
